Save Money on Family Vacations

One way to save money on family vacations is to purchase any tickets to attractions before you go. If there is an advance purchase ticket available, be sure to see what the time limit is for purchasing. You can look for discounts through AAA or other groups you may belong to. Also get your airline tickets, hotel and car in advance.
Take the basics with you from home where they are usually cheaper, such as sunscreen, bug spray and other supplies.
Look into home rentals rather than resorts or hotels. On top of normally being cheaper, you can also save money by cooking your meals in. If you have a larger family it will also keep you from having to get 2 rooms at a hotel or resort. For alternative housing, look at
Specialty Lodging.
Be able to drive to your destination. Flying can be very costly, especially on direct flights.
At your vacation spot, buy groceries outside of the tourist area. If you are out of the country, avoid American food that carries with it expensive import costs.
Travel in the off season. Everything about travel is often discounted then. To really save money on family vacations, be flexible with your dates and check pricing a few weeks before or after your originally travel date.
While at your destination, take time to relax and do nothing. You don’t need to be going to the next attraction all day long. Leave your work at home and truly “vacation”. Value your time together. Play games and enjoy each other.
Have a friend or relative take care of your pets/plants, etc. You can save a mint on boarding fees.
You can also save a bundle by staying with family or friends in the area, or do a house swap with another family. See how to
